Miscellaneorum armarium III, 1565-1804 (scattered dates).

This series originally consisted of approximately 307 volumes. At the present time only about 90 of them remain in the series. These remaining volumes consist primarily (but not entirely) of records of the Secretariatus Status, relating to relations with Portugal, France, Spain, England, Poland, Germany, and several of the Italian states. It also includes volumes of letters of Venetian ambassadors in Rome (v. 24-30), a history of the Holy Office (v. 250), scattered records of the Rota (v. 269 and 284), some briefs (v. 270-273) and the personal manuscripts of Cardinal Francesco Adriano Ceva (v. 31-50), which include diplomatic correspondence.

The office of secretarius intimus (private secretary) was entrusted by Leo X (1513-1521) to Pietro Ardighello, an assistant to Cardinal Giulio de' Medici (the future Clement VII [1523-1534] and a cousin of Leo X), who took over the direction of foreign affairs dealing with all correspondence in the vernacular, especially with the apostolic nuncios who were entrusted by that time with diplomatic missions of a permanent character.
